“He will hold me fast!”
Sam Gordon, Truth for Today
One of my favourite hymns is a golden oldie penned by Ada Habershon which received a shot in the arm from Matt Merker, an American worship pastor, a few years back. And now it’s enthusiastically sung in churches all around the world. You’ll recognise the words:
When I fear my faith will fail, Christ will hold me fast:
When the tempter would prevail, He will hold me fast.
I could never keep my hold through life’s fearful path:
For my love is often cold; He must hold me fast.
Those words are incredibly precious and so meaningful to me – and I’m sure they resonate with your heart as well. 2020 was an ‘interesting’ year for fairly obvious reasons – now 2021 stretches before us. As we begin our journey, we do so with a sense of keen anticipation coupled with a heavy reliance upon the Lord Jesus. Yes our confidence is rooted in Him knowing that whatever lies before us, we have the assurance that He will hold us fast (Psalm 149:4; Jude 24).
The chorus is so apt and appropriate, isn’t it….
He will hold me fast, He will hold me fast;
For my Saviour loves me so, He will hold me fast.
I send to each one of you my warmest greetings and love in the Lord Jesus and pray that this year will be one where the cup of your life is full and running over with the blessing of God.
