Leonardo da Vinci once said: “The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art.”
Did you know for example that your foot has 26 bones, 33 joints, 10 tendons, 19 muscles and 7,000 nerve endings – so many reasons, if you ever needed them, for taking good care of your feet!
It is almost 18 months ago since we last updated you on Tayside Christian Fellowship’s FOOTWISE ministry. At that time, we were up and running again, post covid. The pandemic had closed us down after our first two clinics – so a rocky start to say the least!
Since then, thanks to our loyal and growing band of volunteers, we were so busy and not far from having to start a waiting list. Instead, the unanimous decision was taken to extend our hours to justify a second clinic each month and we reached that stage in February, last month. This means we can now see between 50 and 60 clients each month.
Our clients are so good at describing the benefits of FOOTWISE:
My feet feel great now!”
My nails feel so much better. I am left with dignity now.”
What You Should Know About FOOTWISE
Tayside Christian Fellowship, along with another two churches in Perth, were delighted to respond to a request from Perth and Kinross Council to set up FOOTWISE, a much-needed service for people who are in reasonably good health, but who are unable to undertake their own foot care and don’t qualify any longer for treatment through the NHS.
Our foot care volunteers have received instruction in basic toenail cutting and foot health from NHS podiatrists, to provide the FOOTWISE service. Our volunteers are not qualified chiropodists or podiatrists and therefore cannot give medical advice on footcare or other general health care.
Before qualifying for the FOOTWISE service, a medical screening is carried out by telephone and thereafter updated prior to every appointment.
The cost is £5 per treatment, and, at the first appointment, you need to purchase your own personal toenail cutting equipment for £10 which you take home and bring back for each appointment.
If you think you may qualify and are interested in more details about TCF’s FOOTWISE clinic, then please contact Hazel on 07907 880545.
