Christianity Explored at TCF:
Good Food, Honest Questions, Real Hope

Over the last few months, Tayside Christian Fellowship has had the joy of hosting the Christianity Explored course—a relaxed, welcoming space for people to explore the life and claims of Jesus. From its launch on Wednesday 26th February, the course created a safe and friendly environment where anyone could ask questions, share thoughts, and consider what the Christian faith is all about.

The Format: Food, Fellowship and Faith

Each evening began at 6:30pm, where guests were welcomed into the church with a beautifully catered buffet from Murrays Bakery. The spread was as generous as the conversation—delicious pies, cakes, and savoury bites served as the perfect setting for relaxed, meaningful interactions around the tables.

At 7:00pm, everyone remained at their tables as we watched a 15-minute video, part of the Christianity Explored series, which follows the Gospel of Mark and introduces Jesus: who He is, why He came, and what it means to follow Him. From there, participants broke into small discussion groups, each led by dedicated members of TCF, where the real conversations began.

A Team of Ten and the Power of Community

Behind the scenes, ten members of TCF gave their time and hearts to lead and facilitate the small group discussions each week. Their goal was not to lecture or preach, but to listen, encourage, and journey alongside others as they explored faith. This personal investment in people’s stories and questions was at the heart of the course’s impact.

Reflections from Claire, Peter and Kayla

At our Family Service on Sunday 27th April, two of our facilitators, Claire and Peter, shared how the course had shaped them as much as the guests they walked alongside.

Claire explained that she volunteered because of Jesus’ command in Matthew 28:18–20:

“And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’” (ESV)

For her, Christianity Explored was a practical and personal way to live out that calling. She shared how much she enjoyed the time with people and how it allowed them to get into “the nitty gritty” of faith. With humour, she also confessed to discovering just how good Murrays Bakery’s pies and cakes really are! But beyond the food, she was struck by how much she learned herself—reading and preparing each week, and being regularly challenged by deep and honest questions that even the leaders couldn’t always answer on the spot

Peter echoed her thoughts, describing the questions as exhilarating and evidence of people genuinely wrestling with truth. He testified to God answering prayers throughout the course—not just during the sessions, but continuing even now, as conversations carry on and hearts remain open. He told the church that he had seen lives dramatically changed in response to the faithful prayers offered throughout the course.

Kayla, has also separately shared her reflections after the course concluded. She said, “I really enjoyed getting to know the people attending the course and the time spent in group discussion. Some questions I’ve had for a while were answered—and there’s always something new to learn.” One quote from her notes stood out in particular:

“Bible study doesn’t stop until you meet the Author.”

A timely reminder that our walk with God is always growing and deepening.

It’s Not Over Yet

As Peter reminded us, while the course may have officially ended, God’s work is not finished. We continue to pray for everyone who attended—whether exploring faith for the first time, returning to church after years away, or still asking big questions.

We are deeply thankful to everyone who helped—those who led, baked, prayed, welcomed, and supported in so many quiet ways. The Christianity Explored course reminded us that God is drawing people to Himself, one conversation, one question, and one meal at a time.

Let’s keep praying, inviting, and trusting that more lives will be changed by the love and truth of Jesus.
