A Night of Joy and Hope: Watoto Children’s Choir Brings 'Better Days' to Tayside Christian Fellowship
Friday 28th March 2025 – A Celebration of Worship, Testimony and Transformation
On Friday 28th March 2025, Tayside Christian Fellowship in Perth was filled with vibrant colour, heartfelt worship, and unshakable hope as we welcomed the Watoto Children’s Choir for their Better Days concert. It was an unforgettable evening that touched every heart in the room and left us all deeply encouraged by what God is doing through this remarkable ministry.
An Evening of Worship That Stirred the Soul
From the moment the first note rang out, the sanctuary came alive with joy. The choir—composed of children and young people from Uganda, many of whom have experienced loss and hardship—sang with such energy, freedom, and deep-rooted faith that it was impossible not to be moved.
With traditional African rhythms, joyful dancing, and powerful harmonies, the choir led us in worship that was both culturally rich and spiritually deep. Songs from their Better Days album declared truth over fear, hope over despair, and faith over brokenness. Their confidence in God’s goodness, sung with smiling faces and radiant joy, was contagious.
Stories That Brought Hope
Between songs, the choir members shared their personal stories. These were no scripted monologues, but genuine, vulnerable testimonies yet now stand full of hope, opportunity, and purpose thanks to Watoto’s care.
One young boy spoke of how his life was turned around when Watoto gave him a home, a family, and a church. These stories weren’t told with sorrow—they were told with grace, gratitude, and deep trust in Jesus.
We also heard from former Watoto choir members—now adults—who gave insight into what long-term transformation looks like. Each one testified to how the love and structure provided by Watoto set them on a path to flourish. Their stories were an inspiring reminder that investing in children today builds leaders for tomorrow.
Watoto: A Ministry of Restoration
The event also highlighted the wider work of Watoto Church and Ministry, based in Uganda. For over 30 years, Watoto has been rescuing vulnerable children and raising them in loving, holistic family settings, providing not just shelter but also education, medical care, and spiritual discipleship. Their mission was beautifully illustrated through every aspect of the concert.
We were reminded, too, of Watoto’s outreach to vulnerable women through the Neighbourhood programme, restoring dignity and purpose to mothers who have endured unimaginable hardship.
A Community Inspired
As the final song faded and the applause rose to its feet, many were visibly moved—not only by the sheer talent of the children, but by the profound message of hope they carried. What we witnessed was not just a performance, but a ministry in motion. The Better Days concert reminded us all that God is still in the business of restoration and that even the most broken stories can be rewritten with grace.
Our church family was blessed, inspired, and deeply encouraged. Conversations after the concert were filled with reflection, gratitude, and a renewed sense of mission.
Thank You, Watoto
We are so thankful to the Watoto Children’s Choir for coming to Perth and for allowing us to be part of their incredible story. Their visit was more than a concert—it was a testimony of God’s redeeming power and a beautiful glimpse of the Kingdom of God on earth.
We continue to pray for the children, the leaders, and the whole Watoto family as they carry the message of Better Days to the world.
