On Tuesday 23rd April, we gathered as a church family to lift up the work of Mwana Ministries in Zambia—an evening filled with thankfulness, encouragement and heartfelt prayer.
Mwana Ministries is one of several ministries that Tayside Christian Fellowship supports, both prayerfully and financially, as part of our commitment to global mission. It’s a joy and a privilege to stand alongside faithful partners who are sharing the gospel and showing God’s love in practical ways across the world.
We’re especially encouraged that one of the younger members of our congregation has travelled to Zambia to serve alongside Mwana Ministries in person. It’s a powerful reminder that mission is for everyone, and God can use willing hearts of all ages!
Mwana Ministries: A Threefold Mission
Mwana Ministries is made up of three main branches: Mwana Mission, Mwana Media, and Mwana Action. Together, these arms of the ministry are sharing the good news of Jesus with children and communities across Zambia through Bible lessons, creative media, and practical support.
Mwana Mission: Reaching Children with God’s Word
One of the central focuses is the outreach into government schools. Mwana is now active in 23 locations—with 19 of these in schools and the remainder in open-air settings. Janey, who leads the programme, is currently focusing on two of these locations.
Each year, she prepares around 32 Bible-based lessons, and this year’s series is titled “Heroes of Faith”—highlighting missionaries from around the world who demonstrated deep trust in God. One of the ongoing challenges is translating these stories into the local language in a way that keeps their power and clarity.
The results have been hugely encouraging. Schools are seeing improved behaviour, children are returning to school with enthusiasm, and some schools have even started holding devotions and praying together.
Mwana is also equipping volunteers with new skills. Two volunteers have gained experience in teaching that helped them move into higher education, and four others have been supported in launching small businesses alongside their work in the ministry.
Mwana School: God’s Grace in Joys and Challenges
Mwana also runs a school where children are loved, taught, and nurtured in a godly environment. Recently, Janey shared that three children had to leave the school due to difficult circumstances—something that felt “like losing family.” Yet God graciously brought two new children to join soon afterwards.
Please pray for ongoing positive relationships with the families involved, and for God’s care over each child.
Mwana Ministries Building Project: A Vision Nearing Completion
A new building project is has progressed well and has recently finished. It will house the largest filming studio in Zambia, enabling the creation of Christian media that can reach children across the country.
The final stages include soundproofing the studio, hiring an administrative staff member to assist Janey, and securing the funding needed to complete and maintain the building. The building was opened and completed in June 2025.
How You Can Pray
Please continue to pray for Mwana Ministries, asking God to:
- Strengthen and sustain Janey in her many roles and responsibilities.
- Open more doors for sharing God’s Word in schools and communities.
- Deepen relationships with families involved in the Mwana School.
- Provide the resources needed to complete the building, including financial support and new administrative help.
- Guide the wise use of the new media space for God’s glory.
As a church, we’re deeply thankful for Mwana Ministries and their heart for children and the gospel. It’s exciting to see how God is using this ministry—and even more exciting to see members of our own fellowship joining in that work. May we continue to play our part, prayerfully and generously, in the story God is writing through Mwana.
