Our Elders were spoilt for choice when they were asked to choose just one highlight from the first three months of this year.  As always when you take time out to reflect it is only then you realise how busy we have been recently at TCF!

Peter Maiden – Discipleship Matters

Peter Maiden has worked with Operation Mobilisation for over four decades, and is currently International Director Emeritus. He is a former Chairman of Keswick Ministries. He travels widely, fulfilling his teaching ministry. He is married to Win, and they live in Kendal, UK. Peter has had an association with TCF over many years, and we were privileged to have Peter join us in January to speak on ‘Discipleship Matters’. This coincided with our theme for 2019 – What it Means to be a Disciple of Christ – and so was the ideal way to start the year.

Peter has written the book Discipleship Matters. You can see and listen to Peter’s introduction to his book via a video clip here. The church made available 20 copies of Discipleship Matters. If you still want a copy to read please let one of the Elders know. If you have the book and have read it why not pass it on to someone else! You can also listen again to Peter’s sermon on SoundCloud here.

Family Fun Night

On Saturday 5thJanuary some of the Young Adults organised a Family Fun Night to kick off the New Year. The fun-packed evening included Balloon Tower, Horses, Knights and Cavaliers, Cucumber Face Race, Wrap the Mummy, Guess the Movie, Tray Memory Game, and of course the obligatory Music Chairs! There was an amazing spread of food which ensured everyone refuelled at half-time.

A big thank you to Michael, Lauren and Emily for a fantastic night!

OM Mustard Seed Christmas Appeal

Each Christmas TCF chooses a charity appeal to support.  In 2017 we raised money to pay for toilets for a school in Africa.  This last Christmas our appeal was the ‘OM Mustard Fund’.  This was a global initiative by Operation Mobilisation to transform communities by sowing seeds of finance, vocational skill and God’s word into the lives of the lost, the poor and the broken.  We were able to raise just over £2,000 which will provide a loan for setting up a small business and pay for two ladies to receive four months tailoring skills to help them become self sufficient and break free from vulnerability.

2019 Discipleship Year

One of the things which help us at TCF have a shared focus is that each year we have an overall theme to shape our general direction of travel.  This year the overarching big picture we have is ‘following Christ as a disciple’.  While the idea of discipleship isn’t a difficult concept to grasp, becoming individuals who don’t just speak but act in ways that make it obvious we are learning from and following Jesus, is a radical challenge that has the potential to change the whole direction of our lives.  The great thing we keep reminding ourselves of is that if Jesus could use his first followers (who were anything but special) in such dramatic ways, there is hope for us all.

Perth Ladies Christian Conference

On the last Saturday of January, TCF hosted the Perth Ladies Christian Conference.  Over 60 ladies from churches across Perth and further afield attended this uplifting, inspiring and encouraging one day conference.  Our guest speaker was Dr Jane Gallacher who spoke on ‘Living a life of Blessing’ and helped us understand more fully the goodness, loving kindness and joy that God bestows upon us.

Numbers 6: 24-26  The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
