After almost thirteen years, Mary Rowan and Elaine Beck retire soon from Little Angels, Tayside Christian Fellowship’s pre-school group which meets every Monday, during school terms, between 9.45 and 11.15am.
“Throughout those years” explains Mary, “our vision has always been the same a) to reach out to the wider community and crucially for our team of volunteers to show God’s love in a practical, caring way for both children and adults, and b) to provide a welcoming, all-inclusive, safe place, where young children are helped to develop physically, emotionally and socially.”
Indoors, as well as the singing and games, there is a soft play area for babies, construction toys, art materials and sit on toys and, when the weather permits, in the secure garden there is a wendy house, trampoline, see saw and slide.
Mary explains, “Our time together is as much about the adults as it is the children. In a separate room they can enjoy a cuppa, treats, a good chat and a lot of laughs as they enjoy a well earned break, relaxed in the knowledge that their children are being well cared for and having fun as they make new friends.
“We never know what topic will come up any week, but we are there to lend a listening ear and offer Christian viewpoints on issues as they arise. Sometimes it is simply a case of parents sharing experiences and local knowledge. On other occasions in the past, we have supported people at times of crisis such as during a court case, bereavement, a refugee arriving with nothing and someone whose partner was struggling with addictions”.
Little Angels caters for all denominations and currently has families from the UK, Europe and further afield. The adults can be parents, carers or child minders.
The group has never advertised before but is always happy when the doorbell goes and a new family arrives or the adults feel free to invite their friends along. The central location is very handy too, sandwiched neatly behind the bus station and before the South Inch Park. Car parking facilities are also right outside the door.
Little Angels will be open until mid June and, after their summer break, will open again the first Monday in September.
We are so grateful to the Little Angels team: Mary, Elaine, Eunice, Heather and Lois.
As publicised at a Sunday Service recently we’re looking for a new co-leader to join the existing team. Please see one of the Elders, Lois, Eunice or Heather if you’re interested.
